UART smart displays pair a TFT panel with a controller board that a microcontroller drives over a serial port: TTL, RS-232 or RS-485. Screens, fonts and images live in the module’s flash, so your host sends short commands and values instead of pixels. DCLTEK offers 22 UART models from 2.4″ to 15″, including bar-type and round formats, up to 1,050 nits, with −30 to 85 °C options. New to UART displays? Read the UART smart display engineering guide.
How to choose a UART smart display
- Electrical interface: TTL when the display sits on or next to your controller board, RS-232 for short cable runs, and RS-485 for long or electrically noisy runs. 15 of the 22 models offer TTL, RS-232 and RS-485 on the same board.
- Panel interface: the controller board drives the panel (SPI, RGB, MIPI DSI or LVDS), so your host never touches it. It is listed for reference and for future sourcing.
- Touch: projected-capacitive (PCAP) or no touch. The board scans the touch panel and reports touches over the same serial link.
- Brightness and temperature: up to 1,050 nits for bright environments; the 3.5″, 10.4″ and 12.1″ models are rated −30 to 85 °C.
- Format: complete all-in-one assemblies, or SKD (semi-knockdown) kits you assemble into your own product.
- Power: 5 V or 12 V supply depending on size, with most models specified at 2 A.

Frequently asked questions
What is a UART smart display?
A TFT display module with its own controller, flash memory and touch controller. The UI graphics are stored on the module, and a host microcontroller controls it with short serial commands over UART (TTL, RS-232 or RS-485) instead of driving the panel’s pixels.
Should I use TTL, RS-232 or RS-485?
TTL when the display is on or next to the controller board, RS-232 for cable runs up to about 15 m, and RS-485 for long runs, noisy equipment or several displays on one bus. RS-485 is differential and reaches about 1,200 m at low baud rates.
What baud rate do UART displays use?
115,200 baud is a common starting point. With 8N1 framing it carries 11,520 bytes per second, enough for hundreds of small value updates per second. Keep average link load under about 30 to 50 percent.
Can DCLTEK customize a UART display?
Yes. Size, brightness, cover glass, touch tuning, connectors and the serial interface can be customized, and DCLTEK engineers help you choose the module and plan the host protocol.
